Subaru Advantage in Winter Driving
I began selling Subaru’s in the summer of 2004, but it wasn’t until a couple of years went by that I really began to appreciate and understand the ‘Subaru Advantage.’ A funny thing still happens to me on an annual basis, almost like a renewal of vows between Subaru and I. Every year, the first bout of winter driving causes me to recommit to the Subaru brand. Whether it’s deep snow, snow drifts, sudden freeze, glaze ice, black ice – you name it – Subaru’s Symmetrical Full-time All Wheel Drive gives a driver more than a fighting chance to stay in control and on the road.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky to be able to test this hypothesis time and again against most other commonly sold brands on the market. And, in my experience, not all AWDs are created equal. But don’t just take my word for it. If you’re in the market, come by the dealership on a snowy, icy day like today and take one of our vehicles for a test drive. Take it to a quiet side road, like the kind we find in the Lethbridge auto mall (of course, one of our sales consultants will be with you), and just perform a simple function, like accelerating from a dead stop to 30 to 50 kms per hour. Compare a Subaru in that situation to any of our common competitors and see how you feel behind the wheel of a Subaru compared to that other vehicle. Or, take a Subaru on a wintry day up and down Bridge Valley Drive, and compare how that feels, strictly in terms of the sense of control you have over the vehicle in those situations. The inherent balance of a Subaru Impreza, WRX, Crosstrek, Forester, Outback or even the largest vehicle we make, the Ascent, in these situations is remarkable.
